Diego García-Sayán served as United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers (2016 – 2022). He was a judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for two terms, during which he served as President of the Court (2009-2013). A relentless human rights advocate, he has broad experience working for multilateral organizations having worked for the United Nations and the Organization of American States. García-Sayán was Minister of Justice during the democratic transition in Peru and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He studied Law and Letters at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Péru, and Political Sciences at the University of Texas. He joined the Global Commission on Drug Policy in 2022.
